Past, Present and Future.

Last week we were working on our speeches. My speech was on Why Do Ants Think They're Invited To Picnics? Here is the link to my speech: Why Do Ants Think They're Invited To Picnics? I really enjoyed writing this and I learnt a lot of things about ants. Here are some of the facts off the op of my head:

  • Ants have been around for more than 110 million years.
  • An ants smell is four to five times better than most other insects.
  • An ant can carry up to ten times their own weight.
  • Ants move more earth than any other living organism.
ISN'T THAT CRAZY!!!

Presenting speeches was also fun and we got to listen to everybody elses as well. Some of the topics were really crazy! Since I am in the A Class we are allowed to have 4 students to go into the year 7 speech finals. I am also going to Bali next week and we leave on Friday. Next Thursday is going to be my last day of school before we go!

I am really looking forward to getting to the hot beaches of Bali! We are going to 9 days I think and when I get back it will be one week before the Opera! I am a Drunk Lady and  Sprite. The dances are reallt cool and it is going to be amazing when we are all onstage.

I am really looking forward to everything at Sothwell!!!

WANAKA!!

In the school holidays I went down to the South Island to Queenstown. From there I went to Wanaka. My family and I went skiing and we also went to Puzzling World. It is soo cool! We did a giant maze called 'The Great Maze' and I teamed up with Daddy and Olivia. (My younger sister. Aged 5) Mummy and Benjamin (my younger brother aged 9) teamed up too. My team found all four corner towers that you are supposed to find. For Benj and Mummy... They started to follow us even though they said they weren't

Publishing (Images)

HERE YOU GO!!! :

This is one of my favourite pieces in my whole book. This was inspired from a Toi Toi which is a journal for young authors and illustrators. We read a piece about a waterfall in class which inspired me to do a poem.
This one is inspired by James and the Giant Peach.
This is a poem I wrote about a Tsunami.

Ha! Ha! Has anybody noticed that all the pieces are poems!!! It just shows how much I LOVE poems!  I do have other pieces except they are just a work in progress!

Publishing

I have now got 11 pieces of publishing that I have done and I will put on some photos of my best pieces soon......

Technology Competition

For Technology this term the year 7's are entering a competition for the future transport of New Zealand. I am in a group with Sarah Crowther and Anna Urlich. Our video is coming along nicely and we are almost ready to present it with the rest of the class. I was hoping the we could build a small model for our idea that I am not going to put on this blog post as other people may steal our idea and make it better. I am really enjoying technology and I can't wait to actually make something that I can use at home.

James and the Giant Peach

On Monday 12th of June 7DM presented their year 7 production James and the Giant Peach. I was a teenager that went to bargain to see the peach and I was also a seagull. I think that we did really well and I really enjoyed the show.

On that same night our class watched 7JA's show as well. I thought that theirs was quite funny and both plays got the main storyline across adding little bits along the way.

Science Digestive System

Today in Science with Mr. Velzian we made the digestive system out of plasticine.

Here is a picture of my finished model:

Doing this helped me to understand that the digestive system is really just one really long tube.

The backwards 'C' at the top is the mouth, and the tube coming out of that is called the oesophagus. (Said esofogus)
Connecting to that is the stomach, the first blob, and the blob next to it is the liver, gall bladder and gall bladder tube.
The tube connected to the stomach is called the duodenum and the stick is called the pancreas.
The small intestine (ileum) is the squiggles and the box is the large intestine (colon). Connecting to that is the rectum which finishes out at the anus.

Pottery

Today (Thursday 16 March) I did pottery. Most of our finished licorice allsorts were finished and we put them on string so they ended up looking like this:

Don't they look awesome! Last time we also made cups and painted them and we all got them today! They were glazed last time we were at pottery with the licorice allsorts and here is s picture of my cup:

I was REALLY pleased with it and if you ever get the chance to do pottery, I hope you end up being as thrilled as I am with your creations!

Back From Camp!

This is a picture of 7DM and 7JA together after being at the Memorial Pools before heading back to school from Year 7 camp in Tauranga.
Camp was amazing! Here are some of the BEST activities we did at camp.

Waimarino. This is a giant water park with lots of team-building activities and things to do with friends and by yourself. One of my favourite activities at Waimarino was the hydro-slide. A big water slide which you have the choice of sliding down on  mat or in a kayak. I went down so many times and enjoyed every second of it.

Another activity is the Rock Hop. Jumping of cliff faces and riding down waterfalls is one of the best experiences I will have in my whole life. I was out of my comfort zone and doing it with my friends was awesome!

The final activity I am going to tell you about is SUP Boarding, Waka-ama and a Tour around the Mt.
First I did the walk around the Mt Maunganui and learnt  all the Maori names and stories of the Mt. Then I got changed and did SUP Boarding, (Stand Up Paddle Boarding), and we learnt how to sit, kneel and stand on the paddle boards. As well as learning how to push each other off the boards!!! The final activity I did the Waka-ama. Sadly, we started off going backwards in the waka! Then we almost crashed into at least 3 boats that were moored in the bay.

I LOVE CAMP!!!
